Learn how to become a stream biology volunteer monitor

Description

Join Butler Soil and Water Conservation District to learn the methods to becoming a volunteer stream monitor during this training class.

This stream monitoring will focus on the macro invertebrates (bugs) who live under water. Their presence or absence can indicate the health of the stream. The healthier the stream, the greater diversity of creatures, which then provide food to the fish, turtles, and other wildlife in and around the creek.

During this 2.5 hour class (which counts towards volunteer hours) we will go over the various bugs, then head to the stream to learn how to collect a sample. After sampling, we will then move to dry land and try our hand at identifying the creatures. All wildlife will be released back into the creek.
