Monitor Stream Life Volunteer Training

Calendar Happens On Jun 19, 2021
Time 9 am - 11:30 am
Expired

Description

After attending this training, you will be able to collect data on stream across the county to help us assess how healthy they are. Each month, we collect chemical data from about 75 stream locations around the county, but this only gives us a small window of the conditions. By helping us collect stream biology data, you can add to our knowledge of the health of Butler County Streams.

When: Saturday, June 19 starting at 9 am. We should be finished by 11:30 am at the latest.

Where: Dudley Woods Preserve, Hankins Rd, Liberty Twp. Please note this is not the park on Yankee Rd that has a similar name.

What: We will meet under the shelter to learn about the various macroinvertebrates (small creatures without backbones such as baby dragonflies, worms, snails, etc), then we will head to the creek to collect a sample. The bulk of our time will be spent looking at, and identifying, the creatures we collect in our sample.

Who: This opportunity is available to those 14 years and older. We hold free creeking programs for younger children. Please see www.butlerswcd.org/kids for dates and locations.

Please bring: Closed toe shoes that can get wet. We will be no deeper than knee deep. Reading glasses if you wear them. Mask.
