Come Home to Oxford Empty Bowls!
With our thanks for your support of our Online Bowl Sale the past two years, we are DELIGHTED to return to our beloved benefit soup luncheon for our 20th year, celebrating art and service as we bring together the works of Miami University and Talawanda High School ceramics students, local potters, artists young and old, and local cooks to raise much-needed funds for local organizations that supply food to local families in need.
Unfamiliar with our event? Empty Bowls was created in 1990 by a Michigan art teacher who was looking for a creative way for his students to support a local food drive. The idea grew, and in the thirty-two years since its inception, Empty Bowls has grown into an international event now held in 20 different countries, raising millions of dollars world-wide toward hunger relief. Our local event is honored to have raised over $126,000 for local efforts to alleviate hunger and food insecurity in our own community.
We invite you to:
- MAKE BOWLS with your group or organization, or at a community bowl painting event at You're Fired! Local potters needed!
- VOLUNTEER to make soup, bread, desserts, or work the day of the event.
- ATTEND the luncheon! This year, Empty Bowls will be held on Saturday, November 12th from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Oxford Community Arts Center.
How it works: At the luncheon, guests choose from a collection of beautiful bowls created, decorated and donated by Miami University and Talawanda High School students and local potters, artists and residents. Their bowls are then filled with their choice of soups made by local cooks. Luncheon guests then keep their bowls to use or display at home and to serve as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world. Homemade bread and desserts, and beverages donated by local businesses will also be served.
Cost: $15; children 10 and under may eat for free (bowls not included)
We hope you will join us for this wonderful event! To volunteer or for more information, please write OxfordEmptyBowls@Gmail.com.
